Data Management Fundamentals: A Secret Weapon for Net Zero Goals

Exploring how better management of data can help organisations improve their ability to achieve Net Zero goals and Sustainable Development Goals?

Detailed view of Earth from space highlighting continents and oceans.

Organisations of all sizes are being challenged to improve environmental efficiency and reduce their contribution to greenhouse gas emissions. But energy consumption in Data Centres continues to rise, with data management contributing more to CO2 than the air travel sector. So, what can data leaders do to help their organisations rein in this inefficiency and improve their chances of hitting net zero targets? What tools do we have in the current data management fundamentals toolbox that can help? What are the ‘unsexy’ things that might deliver tangible benefits to Net Zero goals, compliance, obligations, data quality, and the bottom line?

Focus Areas for Discussion

In this session, delegates will explore how fundamental disciplines in data management can help organisations better manage their impact on the environment while at the same time reducing costs, improving compliance capability, and improving data quality and information searchability and findability. Delegates will also discuss the wealth of data that is available to measure their impact on the environment and how best to apply these fundamental data principles to help put that data to work informing decisions and guiding and evidencing change in their organisations.

Questions that may arise might include:

  • What is the environmental impact of ROT (redundant, obsolete, trivial) data in my organisation (and how do I measure it)
  • What is the value of data modelling to helping reduce the energy consumption and carbon footprint of our data
  • In the age of GenAI and Agentic AI, how important are good data practices to ensuring that these tools are driving us further from our SDG targets
  • How can data help evidence and validate your ESG claims and promises as an organisation?
